We acquired a vast amount of knowledge about radio, from the setup and content to audio waves and tools, all of which are essential for creating a radio that people will want to listen to. This knowledge was not just theoretical, but also practical.

As a musician, I am used to working alone in my studio. It was new for me to step outside my comfort zone and work with other artists, and to receive feedback from them. I was skeptical at first, as most artists are, but I realized that the feedback was for my own benefit and that everyone wanted to help each other.

The Writing Room workshop taught us many new skills. We learned how to build scenarios based on visual imaginative techniques instead of narratives. This was a completely new approach to writing for us, and we are grateful to the trainers and mentors at Ma3mal 612 for introducing it to us.

I hope to become a role model in this field, especially for female artists, as there are only a few of us. My experience at Ma3mal’s music residency will hopefully pave the way for such exposure and encourage more females in our community to become music producers.

The selection criteria of trainees for the radio workshop should be highly acknowledged for Ma3mal 612, each of us complemented each other, level of experience, talent, background, we all noticed how highly that was curated to push us towards teamwork.

CinemaY reignited my initial drive, reminding me of the reason I delved into journalism and media studies - my undying passion and love for cinema.

The writing room workshop helped me develop the skills necessary to create a whole series, from character development to plots. I learned how to create well-rounded characters with complex motivations, and how to develop plots that are both engaging and believable. I also learned how to work effectively with other writers, and how to give and receive feedback in a constructive way. All of this was possible thanks to Ma3mal 612

I believe that ma3mal612 is a fantastic place to promote innovation, both for me and the other musicians involved in the project. The space is well-equipped with the tools and equipment we need, and it feels like a safe place to speak our minds, share our artistic innovations, and network. I have enjoyed my experience here immensely.

The CinemaY workshop raised many questions and offered numerous answers, especially regarding why I chose cinema. It's my tool for delivering a message, advocating for marginalized causes, and above all, it's my means of self-expression.

College doesn't teach you how to set up a radio from start to finish, and I don't think I would have been able to learn it from professionals and practitioners anywhere other than at the Radio workshop at Ma3mal 612

I thoroughly enjoyed working at Ma3mal 612. I haven't seen any other place like it in Amman. It doesn't just support art, it gets it.

Conducting a recording session in the city streets, learning how to ask questions, and observing the reactions of people of different ages, genders, and backgrounds taught us a lot about our city and community.

This residency and project was a completely new experience for me and most other people involved. I am used to working alone, with my headphones on and no one hearing what I am doing. Being surrounded by other musicians who can hear what I am doing encourages me to do my best and to communicate with other artists. This has opened up new opportunities for me that would not have been possible anywhere else.

The Approach
Ma3mal has adopted the collective approach in which all stakeholders are appreciated as main actors in order for them to reach a high sense of ownership and passion for their different projects. In this foundation, and given that it is a Factory, al Ma3mal 612 attracts visual art workers to work under a common theme agreed upon by the collective working team. Each specific project starts by designating its raw material, its research elements and the findings of the Think Tank. The team members alternate roles to engage and contribute to each other’s projects including their contribution to the project's production line process.
